Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his hope that his upcoming summit with his US counterpart Joe Biden in Switzerland will create conditions for discussing the issue of non-proliferation.
Putin said, in statements to him, according to the Russia Today news channel, that he expects "the resumption of contacts and personal relations with the American president, the launch of direct dialogue, and the establishment of effective mechanisms for dealing in directions of mutual interest."
The Russian president expressed his agreement with US officials about the existence of such issues of common interest between Moscow and Washington, explaining that they include strategic stability, regional conflicts, and environmental protection, saying, "In fact, there are files on which we can cooperate effectively."
He pointed out that there are issues of common interest between the two countries in the field of economy as well, noting that many American companies seek to carry out their activities in Russia, but the US authorities are forcing them to withdraw from the Russian market.
