America donates 750,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine to Taiwan

US Senator Lada Tammy Duckworth announced today, Sunday, that the United States will donate 750,000 doses of vaccines against the “Corona” virus to Taiwan, as part of its plan to share at least 80 million doses of vaccine globally.

"The United States believes that it is very important for Taiwan to be included in the first group to receive vaccines, because we recognize its urgent need and appreciate this partnership," said US Congresswoman Duckworth, according to the official Taiwan Fox News Agency.

Duckworth, Senators Dan Sullivan and Christopher Coons arrived at Taipei Songshan Airport on Sunday morning.

Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen later expressed her appreciation to the delegation for the donation, which she said showed bipartisan support within the US Congress for Taiwan.

Taiwan has tightened measures to combat the "Corona" virus since last May 15, as it witnessed an increase in the number of new cases, and the vaccination rate against (Covid-19) among the country's population of 23.6 million is still less than 3%.
