On Monday, Sabri Boukadoum, the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, will chair a session of the African Peace and Security Council. To discuss the situation in Mali.

According to the Algerian News Agency, the session aims to mobilize efforts to support the path of stability in Mali in order to achieve peace and security in the entire Sahel region, and to appreciate the progress that has been made recently.

This meeting will also be devoted to studying recent developments in Mali, reviewing the outputs of the Transition Support Group in Mali that was held in Lomé last March, as well as finding ways through which the African Union supports electoral and constitutional reforms, and considering its contribution to peaceful, inclusive, transparent and credible elections.

The meeting will discuss ways for the African Commission to contribute to the rapid implementation of the Peace and Reconciliation Agreement in Mali, or what is known as the "Algiers Agreement", and concrete measures to improve the security situation there, restore power and provide basic social needs, in addition to combating terrorism and extremism.

This move comes within the framework of Algeria's role as the sponsor of the peace and reconciliation agreement, to which the financial parties are committed. Algeria also chairs the committee to follow up the implementation of the agreement, which is the only option to maintain financial safety and stability.
