A United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) official said today, Wednesday, that Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of the United Nations Organization, is expected to win a second term this year, with no one but her running for the position until candidacy closes on March 16.
France's Azoulay took the position in 2017 after intense competition. It bore the burden of reviving the organization’s resources after the withdrawal of the United States, which had provided a fifth of the funding.
She is expected to win a second four-year term in light of the elections in November, the absence of competitors and her support for most of the 58 member states of the Executive Council, including China, the largest financial contributor.
