What are the signs of cystitis .. and does the infection spread to the kidneys?

Cystitis is often caused by a bacterial infection, called a urinary tract infection. Bladder infections can be painful and uncomfortable, and can become a serious health problem if the infection spreads to your kidneys.

According to the mayoclinic website, cystitis may occur as a reaction to some medications, radiotherapy, or the use of some perfumes in the sensitive area. Cystitis may also occur as a complication of another disease, and the usual treatment for bacterial cystitis is antibiotics.

Cystitis signs and symptoms often include:

1: A strong and persistent urge to urinate.

2: A burning sensation when urinating.

3: Exiting small and frequent amounts of urine.

4: blood in the urine.

5: foul-smelling urine.

6: Discomfort in the pelvis.

7: A feeling of pressure in the lower abdomen.

8: Low fever.

In young children, new episodes of occasional daytime urination may be a sign of a UTI. Bed-wetting at night alone is unlikely to be associated with a UTI.

Seek medical help right away if you have common signs and symptoms of a kidney infection, including "back or side pain, fever and chills, nausea."

If you have urgent, frequent, or painful urination that lasts for hours or longer or if you notice blood in your urine, contact your doctor. If you have been diagnosed with a urinary tract infection in the past and have symptoms that mimic a previous UTI, contact your doctor.
