Hariri: The priority is to form a new Lebanese government, and an apology remains an option


The Lebanese Prime Minister-designate, Saad Hariri, said his adherence to the formation of the government, stressing that the priority is to form before an apology, which remains an option.


Al-Hariri added in statements to the Lebanese newspaper An-Nahar today that the apology is not an escape from responsibility as it is a national action if it contributes to facilitating the process of forming a new government that can save the country.


Hariri made it clear that in the event of an apology, this step cannot be considered a victory for a particular group over what he described as "the rubble of a country."


The newspaper also quoted sources close to Hariri as saying that he has a plan to save the country and advance it, but it needs effort and some time, expressing regret over the severe differences that are taking place over the formation of a government that is no more than ten months old until the completion of the upcoming parliamentary elections next year.


The sources also quoted Hariri as categorically rejecting the possibility of extending the current parliament, stressing that the dispute between Hariri, on the one hand, and the President of the Lebanese Republic, Michel Aoun, and his political team, the Free Patriotic Movement headed by Representative Gebran Bassil, is not personal at all, but is based on a difference of views on all files. .


It is worth noting that the political crisis in Lebanon witnessed a complexity in recent days, after hopes were placed during the past few weeks on the initiative of the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, to resolve the differences between the President of the Lebanese Republic, Michel Aoun, and his political team, the Free Patriotic Movement, led by Representative Gibran Bassil (son-in-law of the Lebanese president). On the one hand, and Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri and his political team in the Future Movement on the other, related to forming the government that Hariri was assigned to form after binding parliamentary consultations last October.


Since Hariri’s assignment about 8 months ago, all attempts to reconcile between the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister-designate have faltered over the formation of a new government of competencies that enjoys the confidence of the President of the Republic, Parliament, the Lebanese people, international institutions and brotherly and friendly countries of Lebanon to start a plan to save the country from the worst economic crisis in its contemporary history, which he classified The World Bank is among the 3 worst crises in the world since the mid-nineteenth century.


The economic crisis was reflected in the financial conditions in Lebanon, as the Lebanese pound collapsed in the informal exchange market to the lowest level in its history, while banks stopped disbursing depositors’ deposits in foreign currencies for many months, while social and living conditions deteriorated due to the lack of fuel, the continuous and prolonged power cuts and the shortage of electricity. Many goods, medical supplies, medicines, baby milk and other crises that cause great tensions in the Lebanese street.
