Italian Speaker of Parliament: Converting the Belarusian Air Force into a civilian flight requires European intervention

Italian Parliament Speaker Roberto Fico said that what happened to the civilian flight to Vilnius that the Belarusian Air Force forcibly transferred to Minsk to arrest one of its passengers, an opposition activist, is very dangerous.

On his Facebook page on Monday, Fico said, according to the Italian News Agency, that the European Union should act decisively against this unimaginable violation, first of all by tightening sanctions against the Belarusian government.

For her part, the leader of the opposition Italian Brothers Party and the European Conservative Party (Ecr Party), Gurga Meloni, wrote on Twitter that what happened in the skies of Belarus is unacceptable, and hijacking a plane to arrest a political opponent is doubly unacceptable. The European Union and the international community must respond forcefully to this provocation.

It is noteworthy that the Belarusian authorities had forced a plane belonging to the European (Ryanair) company to land at Minsk airport, where opposition journalist Roman Protasinevich was brought down and arrested before allowing the plane to continue the flight.
