Belgium bans travel from India, Brazil and South Africa due to the new Corona strains

The Belgian government has banned travel from India, Brazil and South Africa, due to the escalation of "Covid 19" infections and its new strains in the territories of the three countries.

According to the government's announcement, the newly imposed ban includes travel by plane, ships, buses, trains and transit traffic, however there will be some exemptions for diplomats and transport workers, if they can prove that their trip is necessary.

Belgian residents and citizens are allowed to return to Belgium from any of the three countries mentioned above; But they must go through a testing process twice throughout the week, and if they fail to meet these requirements, they risk facing a fine of € 250.

The Belgian authorities indicated that there will be more talks at the European Union level, especially with neighboring countries, to reach a coordinated approach in this regard.

The office of Prime Minister Alexander de Crowe announced through a statement that "the transportation of passengers by plane, trains, boats and buses, including transit, from India, Brazil and South Africa to Belgium will be prohibited."

The country recorded 982,959 cases of infection, and 24,140 deaths, based on data published by Worldometers, and the epidemiological situation of Corona virus in India prompted the authorities in some other countries to ban travel from India.

Besides Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Bangladesh and the Maldives have taken the same preventive measures by banning travel from India after the latter reported an increase in the number of infections.

The Dutch authorities have temporarily froze travel from India until at least May 1 in an effort to protect the lives of its citizens from the rapid spread of the virus.

However, the ban will not include cargo flights and flights carrying medical personnel, and Germany and Italy also announced that they are temporarily bans entering India to contain the virus from further spreading.

The latter's government confirmed that not all people who have visited India during the past two weeks will be allowed to enter Italy, however, the government has made it clear that Italian residents in India will be allowed to return if they get a negative COVID-19 test result before departure and arrival.
