Sudan announces the rehabilitation of the "Butt" dam in the Blue Nile

The Dam Implementation Unit of the General Administration of Water Harvesting at the Sudanese Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources announced the initiation of the rehabilitation of the Bout Dam in the Blue Nile State (southern Sudan), before the beginning of this year's autumn season. The director of the dam implementation unit in Sudan, Engineer Al-Sir Muhammad Adam, said: In a statement by the Ministry of Irrigation - bids have been launched to rehabilitate the Butt Dam for national companies in preparation for the start of work early next month, pointing to the allocation of 330 million Sudanese pounds (the dollar is equivalent to about 378 pounds) from the Development Department at the Ministry of Finance to rehabilitate the second phase of the dam.

For his part, the Director of the General Administration of Water Harvesting, Eng. Ammar Mahjoub, emphasized the readiness of the Water Harvest Department to complete all the works required for rehabilitation to ensure storage in the lake and the utilization of storage water.

It is noteworthy that the Butte Dam, which was established in 2004 in the Blue Nile State, is one of the small dams that were built as part of the water harvesting projects, and last year it was exposed to unprecedented torrents and rains in the top of the valley that feeds the lake, which caused a 200-meter sump to break and empty the lake's water.
